Project Scope
Complete interior transformation of Beyond the Bean's Bristol warehouse facility into a professional barista training centre and demonstration space. The project included design and manufacture of a bespoke integrated coffee counter with professional equipment installation, custom reclaimed timber shelving, space planning for training sessions, and full interior refurbishment of the warehouse environment to create a welcoming learning space for coffee industry professionals and aspiring baristas.
Design Concept
Create an authentic, non-corporate training environment that reflects Beyond the Bean's urban brand identity and coffee culture expertise. The design needed to balance practical training requirements - including professional-grade coffee equipment, product display areas and space for hands-on instruction - with an inspiring aesthetic that showcases specialty coffee craftsmanship and encourages learning in a relaxed, industry-authentic setting rather than a sterile classroom environment.
The Solution
Professional Training Environment & Custom Counter Design. Beyond the Bean required a Bristol facility functioning as both a practical barista training environment and demonstration space for coffee industry clients. The focal point is a bespoke integrated service counter featuring professional-grade espresso equipment positioned for optimal training visibility. We designed the counter to accommodate both instructor demonstrations and trainee practice, with carefully planned workflow zones. Material selections include locally salvaged reclaimed scaffold board for shelving and feature walls, stainless steel work surfaces and Hi-Macs® solid surface countertops providing durable, hygienic areas meeting commercial coffee preparation standards.
Multi-Functional Training Hub. The completed facility serves diverse needs: daily barista training courses, coffee tasting sessions, wholesale client demonstrations and product showcasing. The flexible design accommodates various group sizes and training formats while maintaining professional standards expected in specialty coffee education. The space now functions as both an income-generating training centre and an impressive representation of Beyond the Bean's expertise in Bristol's competitive specialty coffee sector, supporting their growth as coffee educators and wholesale suppliers.
